"and the noose better not come loose"

I am born to hang
and it's all healthy news
in a nutshell this means that
I never have to live like you
I am born to hang
but not to have kids
and to never be wed
to someone who I don't even love
and the noose
it eventually comes loose
when you're born
when you're born to hang
time is so strange
and love doesn't come
or if it comes then it comes too late
and the song that we sing
it rings in our heads
it's flowing with dread
because it's all that we know
and the noose
better not be loose
when you're born to hang
time is so strange
and love doesn't come
or if it comes it comes too late
and the song that we sing
it sings in our heads
and it's flowing with dread
because it's all that we know
and the world is flowing in our head

Sundry
Mark E. Nevin (who co-wrote the Kill Uncle album with Morrissey) mentioned this song in an interview, "There's another track called 'Born To Hang'. It's in the 'Pregnant For The Last Time' vein, similar to that. It would have been a good b-side. It never got finished."

Comtesse Review (as if you care)
"Born To Hang" is very similar to the other Morrissey/Nevin stompers of the era - like "The Loop" and "Pregnant For The Last Time". It's catchy, although obviously an unfinished demo. The best part is when Morrissey messes up and starts to sing "Born To Hang" too early for the second verse. He sings, "When you're..." then realizes his mistake and sings "born" with a strange emphasis. It's fun to hear these little goof-ups on Morrissey demos. It's really a pity the song wasn't finished and given a proper release, since it's actually a lot better than most of Kill Uncle. (Not saying much, I know.) Still, among Morrissey's many riches, it's pretty minor.
